Pekin Community High School is once again hosting the Baccalaureate service for the graduating seniors. Baccalaureate is a service that allows all willing seniors to express how their personal faith has helped them through their high school experiences.

The Ride for HOPE is a motorcycle ride that is being organized by The HOPE Chest of Pekin, a non profit thrift store located on the southside of Pekin. This ride is to raise money for a food pantry that will be located in our building at 1106 Derby St. Pekin, IL. It will be open weekly to Central IL residents.

The Ride for HOPE starts at the Avanti's Dome in Pekin. Sign in is at 10:30a.m.; all bikes out by 12:00 p.m. There will be a stop in Fairview, IL at the American Legion. Then, the ride will finish at Goodfella's in Pekin at 4:00 p.m. Following the ride, there will be a spaghetti supper from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and we will have lots of great raffle baskets!!!

An estimated 20,000 participants will shoot free throws this year to raise awareness and funds for children severely affected by the HIV and AIDS virus in Africa. Started in 2004 by now 18-year old, Austin Gutwein, Hoops of Hope encouraged kids, teens, and adults to shoot 1,000 free throws to represent the 1,000 kids orphaned every 4 hours of HIV/AIDS. Participants will spend their day at the free-throw line shooting baskets in honor of these children.

Through a website, Austin's passion to help kids has led to thousands of participants and raised approximately $3 million over the past nine years. Now in it's 10th year of changing the game, Hoops of Hope has a goal of raising 1 million in 2013 to build it's 3rd medical clinic in Zambia, as well as give back to the local community by donating backpacks of supplies to needy children here in the U.S. In it's 9 years, Hoops of Hope shoot-a-thons have funded the building of a high school for 1,000 students complete with dormitories and a solar powered computer lab, a medical lab and counseling center, a water project in Kenya, water projects and a feeding program in Malawi, a second medical clinic in Zambia as well as numerous small projects benefiting needy children. 100% of all proceeds from Hoops of Hope events go to facilitate the building of Hoops of Hope projects.

The Minonk to Peoria Runners will be hosting their 3rd annual Rockin' and Runnin' event to raise funds for their run. There is something for the whole family at this event, held in downtown Minonk. A bag's tournament will start at 2:00 p.m., with sign up at 1:00 p.m. There will be a kids carnival featuring games, goodies, and prizes from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. There will also be music from 4 different bands, mostly country, starting at 4:00 p.m. Please come on out and enjoy some family fun in a great community, supporting a great cause!

Minier Christian Church is hosting an Easter Seals Fundraiser. An Easter Seals Walk With Me Team called Luke and Friends will be at the event. Everything at the event is FREE,  but we ask for donations to the cause.

There will be Avantis sandwiches, hot dogs, and more for food. There will be great music from The Howards (Bluegrass) and The Stevill Dan Band (Classic Light Rock). There will be kids activities including the Zoo Lady (face painting), The Glitter Fairy, Unbelievable Balloons, crafts and games! There will also be a Silent Auction including donations from local businesses like Lowes and Michael's Italian Feast. Also donations from celebrities like the DUCK DYNASTY cast (7 autographed items).
