Big Brothers Big Sisters of Springfield is appealing to the community to support the 33rd Annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake event, the mentoring organization’s biggest fundraiser. This year’s event will be held over the course of three weekends. Available sessions: March 4 at 9:30, March 5 at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00, March 11 at 5:00 and 9:30, March 13 at noon, 1:00 and 2:00, and March 18 at 5:00 and 9:30 p.m.

The donor-funded organization challenges everyone—mentors and mentees, their friends and families, partners, community leaders, as well as others who may not have time to mentor but support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission—to join Bowl for Kids’ Sake and start something to change the life of a child forever. The nation’s leader in quality one-to-one youth mentoring services, Big Brothers Big Sisters holds itself accountable for and is able to measure specific youth outcomes. Its programs focus on educational achievement, avoidance of risky behaviors such as juvenile delinquency, higher self-esteem, confidence and the ability to relate to others. “Bowl for Kids’ Sake brings the whole community together in support of a positive future for our kids,” said Lisa Rakey, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Illinois Capital Region. “No matter how someone chooses to be involved—bowler, team captain, sponsor, or even a virtual bowler—each person has a hand in helping to start a child on the right path. Every dollar raised through Bowl for Kids’ Sake directly funds our mentoring programs in Sangamon County and helps to maintain and sustain our mentoring relationships, increasing kids chances for success.”

Prairie Christian School will be holding its spring fundraiser.  We are having a dinner and LIVE auction. The meal is from 5:00-6:30 P.M. and live auction starts at 7:00 P.M.

Our school has been located in El Paso since 1990.  We currently have 43 students in grades K-8.  The school maintains high academic standards while instilling traditional Christian values.  Our school is funded solely through tuition and donations from the individual families and the community.  Our school is unique in that we are a private school that offers lower tuition by off-setting our costs with parental involvement in various tasks of the school.   By this approach, we are able to reach a demographic of families that otherwise could not afford a private school.
